Project narrative
AGRISOL is a European Union–funded project under Horizon Europe that began in November 2025, aiming to accelerate the deployment of agrivoltaics (APVs) and promote the sustainable integration of solar energy into the European agriculture. The project focuses on supporting farmers, cooperatives, agribusinesses, and energy actors to adopt agrivoltaics that enable simultaneous energy generation and agricultural production. By overcoming existing regulatory, financial, and technical barriers, AGRISOL seeks to enhance the resilience and competitiveness of the agricultural sector while contributing to the EU’s renewable energy and climate neutrality goals.
Objectives
The project will analyse framework conditions and value chains across six European countries, Greece, Italy, Spain, Denmark, Poland, and Germany, identifying market bottlenecks and opportunities for innovation. AGRISOL will establish five pilots, specifically in Greece, Italy, Spain, Denmark, and Poland to deliver support services and tools in real agricultural environments. Through extensive stakeholder engagement, the project will co-design tailored approaches that address local needs and foster collaboration between the agricultural and energy communities. To enable a viable market for agrivoltaics, the consortium will deliver targeted business, financial, and technical support services complemented by capacity-building programmes and knowledge exchange activities designed to improve understanding and trust among farmers and technology providers.
Engagement and awareness
To strengthen collaboration and informed decision-making, AGRISOL will develop a digital Engagement Platform that hosts interactive tools, data, and resources for stakeholders. The platform will facilitate cooperation, showcase successful agrivoltaics uptake cases, and provide credible assessments of energy potential, profitability, and environmental benefits. In parallel, the project will carry out awareness campaigns and apply social impact methodologies to increase societal acceptance of agrivoltaics by at least 25%, addressing common misconceptions and highlighting their value for sustainable rural development.
Monitoring, Evaluation, and Policy Impact
An Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) monitoring and evaluation framework will guide the project’s progress and ensure transparency, replicability, and long-term sustainability. Based on the evidence generated, AGRISOL will formulate actionable policy recommendations to support the creation of an enabling environment for agrivoltaics expansion at both national and European levels. By its conclusion, the project expects to deliver around 50 MW_el of new agrivoltaics capacity across supported cases, leading to an increased share of renewable energy in agriculture and a reduction of more than 0.5 million tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions.
White Research’s Role
White Research (WR) leads the mapping of framework conditions and market dynamics and the analysis of stakeholder attitudes, while overseeing the identification of good practices, and the co-design of approaches that enhance collaboration and innovation between the agricultural and energy sectors.
Additionally, WR leads the project’s awareness-raising and capacity-building activities, ensuring that information, tools, and best practices reach farmers, cooperatives, and other relevant stakeholders. In addition, White Research acts as the project’s Exploitation Manager. This includes defining the project’s Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) management and Exploitation strategy, coordinating the overall IPR strategy, identifying AGRISOL’s exploitable results, defining their potential applications, and ensuring effective joint exploitation among partners.
WR brings the hands-on expertise needed to enhance AGRISOL’s visibility and ensure the uptake of its results, ensuring that AGRISOL’s findings contribute to stronger collaboration between the agricultural and energy sectors and to the sustainable integration of agrivoltaics across Europe.
