Project narrative

The ALCHEMHY project, launched in October 2024 , is advancing the future of chemical production by exploring innovative, hydrogen-powered electrification routes. With a focus on producing ammonia and methanol, ALCHEMHY is paving the way for new possibilities in chemical engineering and process intensification, contributing to a more energy-efficient and sustainable future.

Traditional chemical production methods are energy-intensive and heavily reliant on fossil fuels, making them significant contributors to carbon emissions. ALCHEMHY’s work addresses these challenges by aligning with the EU’s objectives for decarbonisation and environmental engineering. By introducing novel technologies into chemical processes, the project supports the shift toward a circular economy and reinforces the EU’s leadership in sustainable industries.

The project’s mission is to develop, test and scale up advanced technologies that use hydrogen for the electrified synthesis of ammonia and methanol. These production processes incorporate approaches such as thermo-catalysis, induction heating and plasma technology, promoting energy efficiency and environmental sustainability.

Through advancements in process modelling, digital twins and decentralised production systems, ALCHEMHY provides tools for real-time optimisation and scalability, bridging the gap between research and industrial application. The project aspires to set benchmarks for process integration and electrosynthesis in the global chemical sector.

As leaders of the dissemination and communication activities (WP7), White Research plays a key role in ensuring the project’s objectives, innovations and outcomes are effectively communicated. By fostering collaboration, raising awareness, and encouraging stakeholder engagement, we aim to support the adoption of ALCHEMHY’s transformative technologies across industries. WR will also assist in the impact assessment by carrying out a social impact study that will examine and assess the potential consequences of the proposed solutions on local communities, job creation and social acceptance.

The project unites a multidisciplinary consortium of experts dedicated to creating a more sustainable chemical industry. Stay connected for updates on our progress and milestones as we work toward advancing essential chemical production and sustainable engineering solutions.
