LandShift is an innovative EU-funded initiative aimed at advancing climate neutrality in the land-use sector by addressing critical challenges in sustainable land management. Operating across five Living Spaces in France, Greece, Italy, Poland, and Ukraine, the project brings together cutting-edge technologies, community-driven solutions, and multi-stakeholder collaboration to tackle pressing environmental and climate issues.

Objectives and Vision

The project seeks to develop tailored solutions that balance carbon removals, biogenic emissions, and sustainable land use practices, contributing to climate resilience, biodiversity, and community well-being. By aligning with EU priorities such as the European Green Deal and the New European Bauhaus (NEB), LandShift envisions a future where innovative land-use strategies lead to both environmental and societal benefits.

What Sets LandShift Apart

LandShift’s added value lies in its integrated approach to tackling land-use challenges. A key innovation of the project is the development of Data Cubes—advanced tools that integrate diverse datasets to support monitoring, reporting, and decision-making processes. These Data Cubes enable regional authorities, policymakers, and stakeholders to access and analyse critical land-use data, facilitating evidence-based decision-making. Combined with Earth Observation (EO) and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, these tools provide actionable insights for managing land sustainably.

How It Will Do It

LandShift employs a multi-faceted approach that includes:

  • Developing advanced tools, such as Data Cubes, to monitor, report, and verify land-use impacts.
  • Co-creating and testing Nature-based Solutions (NBS) tailored to local and regional needs.
  • Engaging communities, stakeholders, and policymakers to ensure inclusivity and real-world applicability.
  • Sharing knowledge and fostering synergies with other EU-funded projects and initiatives.
